Obsessions

This post is dedicated to my obsessions, and I have quite a few.
Last Sunday, my eyes were glued to the T.V. screen watching the Oscars. I literally could not look away. Hugh Jackman was fantastic!!!! The opening sequence blew my mind and Anne Hathaway is such a doll. I love these pictures. My favorite dresses would have to be Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, and Sarah Jessica Parker.

and as promised, pictures of Mia Farrow. She was SUCH a hippie and I love it. Her voice is so enchanting I could listen to it all day long. Plus, she was wonderful in Rosemary's baby and she actually creeped me out (I watch a lot of horror movies and this hasn't happened in a while)
Like I said, major hippie. Check out her dancing at 0:31. So grooovy.

two of my obsessions are also being put together into a book and MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!
I am majorly obsessed with historical fiction/Jane Austen and Zombies. The book coming out this spring is called Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and in the words of E.W. "I've always said the problem with Jane Austen's novels is that there simply aren't enough zombies. But -- finally! -- that situation has been resolved. On April 1, Quirk Books will publish Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an updated, and much buzzed-about, version of Austen's classic novel, which injects her tale of mannered aristocratic Brits with great gory gobbets of undead mayhem"
I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!thank you god.

I am not obsessed with this, but I thought it was hilarious.
And congratulations to Urban Outfitters to being the good luck charm for three of the girls who made it into the American Idol season 9. Their talent had nothing to do with it, it was the dress.

Observe.

Meghan Corky
Girl whose name I can't pronounce.
It's the SAME DRESS. I'm glad I didn't buy it when I was tempted too. I did try it on though and I'll have to ask my friend to give me the picture she took of my friend and I both trying on that dress. Who knows, maybe if we had bought it and wore it to the American Idol auditions, we could be on T.V. right now sucking it up with the rest of the contestants. They all genuinely suck, really.

Another dress from Urban Outfitters, from the same line.

featured on Casey Carlson, the funniest most painful performer I have ever seen on American Idol.

Random Tuesdays Off

Don't you love it when you get a random Tuesday off of school? I know I do. There is nothing better than going out to see a movie on a Monday night because you don't have to worry about waking up early the next morning. Last night I saw Slumdog Millionaire. SO GOOD. I will talk about it later on.

Until then, this is what I wore when we had people over to celebrate my mom's 5oth birthday. I mostly played the role of slave child and washed dishes and waited on their beck and call. Mucho fun. But, I also watched Rosemary's Baby, which was also an excellent movie. I may do a post on hippy trippy Mia Farrow because she's just that awesome. Here I'm wearing my mom's Barbie pink lipstick from the 80's. It's something that I've been getting into lately. I can't stop! It's like makeup crack!
I wore a skirt over a dress to get this look. The dress itself was not enough, so I decided to add my white skirt. Which was probably not the best idea since we ate spaghetti and lord knows I can't trust myself to stay clean.

Black t-shirt urban outfitters, black dress from Express, white skirt from Express, and heels from BCBG cheesin'apologies for my messy room, folksand here's what I wore today. I sort of threw it on in 5 minutes then rushed to my vocal lesson.
coral t-shirt from urban outfitters, orange dress from boutique in San Francisco, tights from Forever 21, and archetectural heels from Akira in Chicago.

This is my puppy Pip! So cutee..... He's a West Highland Terrier and you gotta love him <3
Ok, Slumdog Millionaire won just about every Oscar for a reason. IT IS SO GOOD. Seriously, go see it. I LOVED IT!!
This child is about the most adorable thing on the planet. and I officially have a crush on this boy. Dev Patel is just about the least likely person to be a movie star and that's what makes him so freaking attractive. I mean, how could you not love that face, those ears, that adorable lankiness? Plus, he's 18. I'm 18. Do the math Dev and Call ME!

Gloriously Remastered

There are always some people who you feel a strange connection to, even though you may have never met that person. This person, for me, would have my great grandmother Theresa. She was always the stylish one on my dad's side and I have only heard wonderful things about her. Mostly about her mushrooms. But, also about her fashion sense and I have her accessories (that I frequently wear) to prove it.
In the spirit of my mother's 50th, behold vintage photos!

This was at my Grandma's college graduation. My dad's the smallest one. I mean check out that pink hat! So fierce.
Great Grandma Theresa with classic pearls, Grandma Lois, and my uncle Kenny
So classy. I really enjoy looking at these old pictures =D

My dad as a baby (looking quite evil mastermind-y) and Grandma Theresa with her fabulous brooches.

This is what I imagine is going through my dad's mind: "sooonn grandma, sooon. I will rule ze world! If only i vasn't stuck in zis insolvent baby body I vould have taken over ze vorld by now!"

Grandma Theresa with my uncle Mark. So precious!

My Grandma Lois is in the middle! I don't know who the women are besides her, but they all look so picturesque. If only I could figure out how to get my hair like that!
Now, we travel forward in time to the 70's! This is my dad in the 8th grade. I enjoy his pants.
My Uncle Kenny and uncle Mark looking quite serious. I also enjoy his wavy hair and tie. So groovy. =DHappy Friday everyone!

Innocence Lost

My mind is a bit of a jumbled mess and now I'm going to attempt to tie two completely different subjects together. The first thing would happen to be the pictures below that are from February issue of Elle Magazine.
In my opinion, this is one of my favorite spreads of late and has been on my mind since I picked up that specific Elle in the airport on my way to San Francisco.
There's something to be said about being innocent and the girls in the pictures below are like angelic aliens. and I love it. In a day an age where girls get more attention for what they are handing out and practically throwing away, it's refreshing to see that innocence is something that could still be valued and precious.

Regardless, those dresses with the flowers are flawless. And I am loving the muted pastel and beige palette with the cut-out eyelet skirts and big belts with the circles cut out. Yeah Fendi.

But, now on to my second topic of blog discussion. Lost. Are there any other MAJOR Lost fans out there? Cause I am definitely one of your kind!!! Lost is possibly the most fascinating and innovative shows on television today. I would recommend buying the boxed DVD sets and watching all the seasons now because it is just that addicting and wonderful.
But Entertainment Weekley recently did a spread with Evangeline Lilly and Matthew Fox accompaning the majorly geeky article on the front cover (which I devoured eagerly =D AND re-read it online.)

I have never been a Jack and Kate kind of person (I've always rooted for Sawyer), but this spread makes a convincing argument for the characters. I love the colors of the leaves with the cloudy sky and the depiction of them running away together. The little (ok, large) romantic in me weeps silently.
I love everything about Evangeline Lilly. First of all, her name is so much fun to say. It's like tasting an expensive chocolate or sitting down eating tea with the Queen; it's just that fancy. And secondly, she is the ulitmate girl next door. Not exceedingly beautiful, but approachable with a glowing smile. If there were any person who I would wish to be, it would have to be her.

I'm loving the tough work boots with her white dress. It's much like her character Kate on the show. Not to mention Matthew is looking quite dreamy without his eternal 5'oclock shadow that he sports constantly on the Island
this one is by far my favorite. The green of the leaves is enchanting.

ok, I like this one too.

this doesn't look like the most comfortable of positions to be sitting in Evangeline, but it makes for a great photo.

Things Emily wants, no, needs!

So, when one finds themselves home sick, there are only a few things that can make oneself feel better.
1. Ice cream
2. Watching the stocked up tv episodes on your tivo
3. Shoes.
Now, as I have accomplished two out of the three tasks on the "Make Emily feel less sucky" list I only have one more.
And as I am quarantined to my home abode, online shopping will have to do.

oaknyc.com is possibly one of my favorite sites to peruse while I'm bored or procrastinating. They can make absolutely anything look cool with the pictures they take of their merchandise. I am personally attracted to this little number by Ksubi. Shiny things make me happy on the inside =D

as with this vest. It's so classy! These shoes are by my new favorite Jeffery Campbell. Now, while I don't own any of his stuff (for now) I can still oogle them to my hearts content.

bah, these booties will be mine!!! Once I figure out how to afford them that is =D
and these are some other kick ass pair of shoes from oaknyc.com by Id tuttle. I'm thinking they would look cute with just about anything. Non?
